Dealing with Energy Issues
The need for more renewable energy sources is greater than ever. Climate change, fast rising power prices and fears over security of supply have put the issue of energy high in everyone’s mind. National and regional authorities including the Isle of Wight have acknowledged that renewable energy is an important solution to help meet the challenges of our modern lifestyle and its ever increasing energy demands.
Communities
Infinergy believes that the local community should benefit from the development of a wind farm. For instance, a wind farm that moves to the construction stage can create various opportunities for local contractors. Furthermore, if constructed, we would be keen to support the community on local initiatives, in particular energy saving and environmental initiatives. Therefore throughout the entire process we will open to local opinion as to how best to benefit the community.
Based on past experience suggestions have included:
- Small local schools in need of additional funds
- Renewable energy initiatives
- Environmental projects for schools
- Helping local organisations and institutions to achieve sustainable standards
- Funding for youth schemes and village halls
- Providing insulation for local residents’ homes
Alternatively, in response to lots of consultation on other projects, Infinergy has set up an initiative called LEO, Local Energy Organisation. It offers reduced green electricity to households in closest proximity to the project. The closer you are the bigger the benefit. For more information, please visit the website www.localenergyorganisation.org or ring the LEO freephone number 0800 862 0215.
